  4. Remove a match out of a book of paper
  5. matches and hold it by the very bottom.
  6. Now turn your hand over so that the
  7. match is upside down.  Make the bet that
  8. you can light the match and hold it in
  9. this inverted position for a count of
  10. fifty without letting go and without
  11. extinguishing the flame.
  12.  
  13. Anyone who tries it will soon drop it to
  14. avoid burning.  To win the bet, light
  15. the match and hold it in the inverted
  16. position.  Now just move your hand
  17. slowly back and forth about eight to ten
  18. inches as you count.  This slows the
  19. burning process and keeps the flame away
  20. from your fingers.  Just remember to
  21. keep the match in constant motion.
  22. Don't move the match too rapidly or the
  23. flame will go out.  To cover yourself,
  24. stipulate that if the flame should
  25. accidentally go out you get another
  26. chance with another match.

  28. With a little practice, you will find
  29. that you can count to fifty fairly
  30. slowly and still win your bet.
